A Rubens' tube, also known as a standing wave flame tube is an apparatus for demonstrating acoustic standing waves in a tube. Invented by German physicist Heinrich Rubens in 1905, it graphically shows the relationship between sound waves and sound pressure as a primitive oscilloscope. Our own Lab Basics Rubens tube has been designed for easy, safe demonstration within the school laboratory environment and is a great way of catching the attention of even the most disinterested pupils.The unit consists of a high quality aluminium tube with a full range speaker mounted at one end. The endcaps incorporate carry handles which makes the unit easier to move after use.
